The class I am teaching in called Algebraic Concepts. This class is for students who are not quite ready for Algebra I. They tend to struggle in school for a variety of reasons, but this class is a place where we are trying to close some gaps. We are also working on self regulation. This year I am attempting to do more self reflection through a economy system. Students will have the opportunity to earn classroom money through jobs in the classroom, classroom work, and positive acts. They will also deal with debt in rent and the ability to purchase items in the class store. All the money will be recorded through their checkbook and register. In the store, my goal is to provide a variety of items ranging from passes to sit where they want to snacks and drinks. This allows us to work with positive and negative numbers in a real life scenario, create a positive working environment, and work on other basic math skills needed in life and in Algebra I. I am asking for money to assist in building and maintaining our classroom store, so I can purchase some items such snacks, drinks, some $5 gift cards to use as a long term savings goal.
