Three Reasons To Buy A House In Winter

TAMARA BURTON - REALTOR®

Winter has always been my favorite season in Manhattan. Enjoying the lights on Poyntz Avenue, ice skating at City Park, watching college basketball, lighting a fire in the fireplace, the occasional layer of snow, and wearing a stocking hat are a few of my favorite winter things! Purchasing a home in winter can also be a great experience that benefits you and your family. Understanding why winter buying can be advantageous will help guide your home purchasing decision. Below are practical reasons why winter can be a great time to buy a home.

  • Many people prefer to hunker down at home in the colder months. If you're willing to brave the cold, snow, and shorter days, this could give you a leg up on the market. Since fewer people are ready to go out or move boxes and furniture in the winter months, you likely won't be competing with as many people in search of your future home. While this may not be the case in Manhattan this winter, keep this in mind in the future, and you could get a deal to start a New Year.

  • Winter buying often gives you greater insight into the home and the surrounding neighborhood. Driveway and sidewalk snow removal, neighborhood street snow removal, cold spots or drafts in the house, window performance, and furnace performance are all crucial insights you may not experience on a 90-degree day.

Agents can make you their only focus. With fewer active buyers during the winter, an agent has more time to individualize the buying process with you and assist with every detail of the buying process.
