Occupational Therapy Supplies

Grant - August 2022

Schools: Amanda Arnold Elementary; Flint Hills Christian School; Manhattan Catholic Schools; Ogden Elementary
Subject/Area of Influence: Sensory Tools
Cost of Grant: $285.83

I am a first year occupational therapist this school year and I heard about this grant program through the new hire orientation last week. My job as an OT is to help students with disabilities increase their independence and skill development to facilitate their best quality of life. We do this by addressing the underlying skills needed for students to be successful in his/her school day occupations (writing, copying written information, participating in various activities, playing with friends, etc.). In order to address these various skills, we need a wide range of supplies for the many different students we serve.

This year, I will have both of the district level elementary autism classrooms. I am requesting many different sensory supplies, as well as supplies for fine motor activities and hand strengthening. Being a first year OT, I don't have many supplies yet and receiving this grant would greatly help me, as well as my students. These supplies would be used throughout all therapy sessions and would help my students to achieve their IEP goals this year and for many years to come!
