It would be beneficial for students in 2nd-4th grades to have sets of decodable books, to build confidence in phonemic awareness and phonics skills. Our current curriculum does not provide decodable books for upper grades, but because of Covid and the transient nature of our population, we always have students in these grades who are reading below grade level. Having access to engaging, accessible texts would bridge the gap in their reading skills and prepare them to be reading at grade level in the future.
